Personal Mission Statement Prior to my Journey

As my former students at Holy Cross School in Rumson, New Jersey can attest, my classroom instruction in social studies has always been laced with lessons regarding social injustice and the importance of servicing those in need particularly outside our borders. It is time that I now "walk the talk"and travel to Mwanza, Tanzania to teach for 5 months at a Jesuit school and assist with matters at its parish. I'm hoping to use this page not only to share my volunteer experience but to also keep in touch with everyone.

As part of the mission I am to fund raise to support my volunteer work. Honestly, this is probably for me the most difficult task of the mission. Support at any level that you would consider would be most appreciated. Please know that your gift will support my mission.

The full cost of one CMMB volunteer is $15,000. Volunteers are not expected to cover the full cost of the mission but they are to make a valiant effort to raise funds to support the direct cost of supplies for the individuals I will serve, my basic living expenses, medivac services, and transportation.

You can learn more about CMMB and their varied missions by visiting their website at

My departure is planned for October 11, 2011, and I look forward to seeing and hearing from you before I leave.

You can imagine how exciting this opportunity is for me; I am honored and blessed to serve those less fortunate. You will be in my prayers.

I will keep you posted of this new step in my life by maintaining this blog.
