A Royal Welcome

After several delays, I arrived in Mwanza at 5pm.  A young man, Masaga, who is affiliated with the St. Francis Xavier Church, greeted me.  The pastor, Father Raymond Manyanga, had made these arrangements for me.  I must say, Masaga at 23 years old was extremely patient and a wonderful host to me.  He has just recently completed his studies in business at the University.  He was born in Mwanza and is exceptionally proud of his country.
We traveled to meet father Ray who was equally as gracious.  From the church Father Ray and Masaga escorted to the school that I will be living at and teaching.  Enroute to the school the sun was setting and it quickly got dark, but the roads were heavily populated with people in cars, others were walking, riding motor scooters, and or bicycles.  The majority of the roads are in need of repair because they are dirt and heavily rutted out.
We  “rocked and rolled” up to the school and were greeted with the students of the school who had been waiting since noon for my arrival.  It was truly a royal welcome, and I was overwhelmed with their warmth and kindness. Unfortunately, my camera was still in my luggage, but memory of that night and their presentation will have a lasting imprint.  I felt honored by their enthusiastic singing and dance.
